Cypress is an unincorporated area located in Harris County, Texas inside the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Houston. Located along U.S. Route 290, or  the Northwest Freeway. Cypress is twenty miles northwest of Downtown Houston. The area is primarily made up of large scale residential and commercial development from the 1990's and 2000's.  The area is known for great schools, great restaurants, and a large shopping area called "Willowbrook Mall".

Since the 1840s, this rural community has attracted settlers. Early settlers called the area  "Cypress Top" . They shared a post office with the Spring Creek and  mail reached them by train, but Tomball, had to settle for delivery by horseback. Some of the commercial establishments of the early immigrants were a corn-cracking mill, a cotton gin and a sawmill.

During the oil days a crew looking for oil discovered a hot artesian well and soon after a  "Houston Hot Well Sanitarium and Hotel" was established. Houstonians took the train up to the mineral baths. Huge concrete basins held the waters. The original Cypress was located north of  Hempstead Road.

Today it has grown into one of Houston's largest suburban communities, but  still maintains its awareness of its heritage.
