Lake Conroe is a man made lake that is approximately 1 hour north of downtown Houston and only about 30 minutes from The Woodlands. It offers a large variety of recreation and is the reserve drinking water supply for the City of Houston.
Construction started in January, 1970 and was completed in January, 1973. Lake Conroe is 21 miles in length and covers 21,000 surface acres. The average depth is 20 feet. The Texas Parks and Wildlife has stocked the lake with several different kinds of fish including Bass, Hybrid Bass, and Crappie.
Lake Conroe is rich in history but filled with modern facilities and restaurants, bars, RV parks, boat launches, and marinas. It has recreation activities such as boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing and much more. Many luxurious waterfront communities surround the lake and many people buy and commute to Houston via I-45.
